You can no longer play Steam games in Tesla cars

Tesla’s ambitious endeavor to create the most unconventional PC case ever—a car designed around a computer—is now defunct. The integration of Steam in Tesla’s X and S models has been discontinued, rendering this feature virtually useless.

Initially launched in December 2022, the integration allowed drivers to play games, albeit with restrictions due to safety concerns raised by a US government investigation. Now, gaming can only be accessed while the Tesla is parked or charging. Nevertheless, the concept of a car doubling as a gaming platform exemplifies Tesla’s penchant for innovative, futuristic ideas.

All owners of Model X and Model S vehicles have been notified that their cars no longer support Steam games, while other functionalities remain unaffected. Prospective buyers awaiting delivery have also received similar notifications.

The appeal of having a built-in gaming PC in a car has proven niche. For those desiring to play games while waiting in the car, alternatives like laptops or the Steam Deck suffice, offering flexibility without the high cost associated with Tesla’s gaming-equipped vehicles.

Additionally, recent concerns about an “unpatched” vulnerability in AMD chips, which allowed unauthorized access to premium features in Tesla models last year, might also have influenced this decision.
